Building a Modified TMaxx from scratch, this is going to cost some money !
The Goal: Big Block Racing TMaxx
Results: Hopefully one of the best built race trucks on the planet !
This truck has been converted back to a stock style TMaxx and the conversion parts Sold !!!!!
This started June 2nd, 2002: with the purchase of some chassis parts and a chassis conversion kit. From the beginning I have intended on building this TMaxx from scratch and documenting it so that others could be built in its likeness. So far I'm having some second thoughts about this idea. From the beginnning I have kept a 100% accurate log of all parts involved. I have posted this list on The PARTS LIST Page.
As of June 13th, 2002: I have most of the parts and have begun assembling The Big Block TMaxx. I have taken some photos of it in the process and post them as time permits they can be found on the PHOTOS Menu. I have learned so far that some time and maybe a little cost could have been saved by cannibalizing a new TMaxx. I will know for sure when I here it run. I just hate the thought of having all those brand new useless parts lieing around. Do you know anyone that uses stock Traxxas suspensions and motors, Radio and servos? Aluminun screws look nice, but not easy to work with.
June 15th, 2002: Working on the transmission and final setup on the chassis. Will take some more photos of the chassis. Some servos installed. Finding out what will and will not work with the available roll bars and Battery sizes. A few more trips to the local hobby stores and I should have most of the parts to complete, less the radio, motor and wheels.
July 5th, 2002: I have all the parts well most of them, I'm currently working on a clutch and bell housing that will work with the OFNA Picco motor and the RRP gear. The motor is almost broke in, I'm not overly pleased with it yet but it's not as bad as the MEGA trouble I've had with other motors. So Far no rollbar has been located. The completed list of parts is on the PARTS LIST Page. I have added Photos of the nearly completed Big Block TMaxx on the PHOTOS Menu. The NEW super Futaba PJ3 has come in and will be using it as soon as I have it programmed.
July 9th, 2002: Okay I have the spur gear, clutch and clutch bell trouble I feel worked out. With a 22 tooth Traxxas clutch bell and Traxxas clutch. A RRP 65 tooth spur gear. This seems to clear the slipping. I have not yet gotten the transmission to work all that well. I have not had that much luck tunning this Ofna Picco motor either. As time goes on I am more than sure these matters will be worked out soon. I have also updated the PARTS LIST Page. I also am in the process of programming the Futaba 3PJ Super with the HiTec 75 Module for use with this truck and it's onboard Novak adjustable FM Reciever. Very Happy with the Radio progress and flexibility to use with my other cars and trucks.
July 13th, 2002: The website has been down for two days becuase of provider confusion. However the tweaking and testing of the Big Block TMaxx super Truck continues. I'm trying to hook up with them aluminum clutches from RC Alloys, But the whole Dam e-mail thing is messed up here. So I have modified an OFNA 4 shoe 1/8th scale clutch to fit under a TMaxx clutch bell. I have this done but now it engages so hard it stalls the motor when it locks up. I adjusted the slipper to favor it a little but thats alot of truck now just loosen up my clutch and it should be ready to race. I say should becuase breaking in and tunning the OFNA motor appears to be on the level of watching a 2 year old, until there 5.......Also thinking on moving the temp gauge around for better more consistent readings. As it dosent seem to be as accurate as the gauge on the OS CV-R .15. Chassis seems to get a little to warm. However as big, heavy and overkilled as it looks I feel after a period of tunning the engine, trans and chassis it will meet all the hardest standards.
August 7th, 2002: Not much time to test between racing the other TMaxx and flying. However I see now that a transmission adjustment this may work well. Tunning seems to be closely related to the weather and here in Good old Michigan it changes twice on Sunday and every 4 hours the rest of the week.
